Meals
We acknowledge that eating healthy and nutritious foods helps young children develop physically, emotionally and cognitively.
Establishing healthy eating habits in Early Childhood provides an important foundation for young children to build upon throughout their early years and into the future.
At our centre nutritious meals and snacks are provided by a qualified chef. The menu will consist of a variety of nutritious dishes that meet 50% of the children’s daily recommended nutrition allowance. A wide variety of child friendly meals will be served with attention to texture, colours and flavours. Texture is important, particularly for young children who are still mastering the art of chewing. Meals will be prepared so that they can be easily chewed and digested.
Dairy foods are offered daily including milk, yoghurt and cheese. A healthy morning and afternoon tea is provided including fresh fruit in season such as watermelon, bananas, grapes, pears, apples, strawberries, rock- melon, and a variety of sandwiches (chicken, cheese and spread). Water is offered as a primary drink. We ensure that children have adequate access to clean and fresh water at regularly throughout the day.
The Centre cook holds a level 2 Food Safety Supervisor Certificate and commits to on-going training. All staff undergoes annual in-house training regarding safe food practices and hold a basic food handling practices certificate.
The menu is pre-planned on a six week rotating cycle. A food allergies record is kept and displayed in the rooms. Parents must provide a list of known allergies and a medical emergency action plan in the event of an allergic reaction which must be clearly displayed with the child’s photo in the children’s room.
